SIDXAbroad is a transformative international exchange experience that blends professional touring, immersive dance training, and cross-cultural collaboration—giving young artists the opportunity to perform alongside professionals while engaging deeply with Korean culture.

  • To foster global artistic exchange and deepen cultural understanding through dance.
  • To create opportunities for emerging artists to train, perform, and connect internationally.

Program Highlights

  • Touring with KDC: Participants travel with Khambatta Dance Company to an international festival in Seoul, South Korea, where KDC is a featured performer.
    Professional Exposure:
    Students observe and engage with the inner workings of a professional dance company on tour, gaining insight into rehearsal processes, production logistics, and performance etiquette.
  • Training with Global Artists: Participants take masterclasses and workshops led by internationally renowned teachers, expanding their technique and artistic vocabulary.
  • Performance Opportunities: Select students may have the chance to perform in festival showcases, either in student-led works or collaborative pieces developed during the exchange. 
  • Cultural Immersion & Exploration: Students experience the rich history and vibrant culture of Seoul through guided sightseeing, local excursions, and interactive cultural activities, deepening their understanding of the host country beyond the studio and stage.

Day 1: See the Sights of Seoul

Seoul, the metropolis capital of South Korea, has a vibrant history that dates all the way back to 18 BCE. The city is rich with ancient history that harmoniously blends with cutting-edge modernity. Visit Gyeongbokgung Palace, originally built in 1395 as the first royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. From their head to the Namsan Tower (N Seoul Tower) to get acquainted with the area with the tower’s sweeping views of the city. Enjoy local cuisine and time for shopping throughout the day. 

Day 2-6: A Global Exchange of Movement and Culture

Each morning and afternoon will be filled with an exciting lineup of workshops in a variety of dance disciplines taught by master instructors from all around the world. Past instructors have included, Michael Whaites (Australia), Bernard Brown (USA), Shin Chang-ho (South Korea), Sunny Savoy (Mexico), and our very own Cyrus Khambatta (USA). 

Students will also get the chance to opportunity to participate in Suwollae. “Suwollae” is an art project that reinterprets the traditional Korean collective dance, Ganggangsullae, in a contemporary way. It is a multi-genre collaborative work that fuses dance, music, and video.

In the evenings, students will attend nightly dance performances featuring professional artists and companies from around the world that are sure to ignite their creativity and enrich their growth both as dancers and as individuals.
